Anybody but me have their internet use affected by the earthquake off Taiwan.  Apparently all of Asia sends internet and phone traffic through there, and they have six damaged cables that they have to pull up off the ocean floor, repair, and re-lay.

I'm in Thailand, and there's an impact here.  It's strange, because it seemed to be site specific.  Yahoo! and Amazon were fine, as was this site.  But yesterday I couldn't get to Google or Blogger.  I suppose it has to do with how they have servers, etc. distributed, and how effectively they can reroute.  Not that I really understand.

Im in Malaysia and the Internet is really bad here. Browsing is sooo slow. It turns out that 98% of the capacity going to Malaysia and Singapore is cut off. They have only restored about 50% and I personally think it is not true. Internet is back to dialup speed (less actually). I have to click and wait, click and wait. It is really effecting my Internet addiction. I need more Internet, Fast.

Well, my Internet is slowing improving. Actually i notice the speed difference early this morning. Some sites are still slow, like Yahoo! and i dont know why. OR maybe im starting to get used to slow Internet connection. Hopefully, this will improve soon.

The effect has been mixed. For servers that maintain multiple data access points the effect has mitigated, while for others priority servers are catered to first.
